Paulina Crochet Basket Pattern

This is my first blog, so please be patient with me:)

One of my favourtie things to crochet is a basket. It is quick, easy and I can carry all my yarns and projects with me all around my apartment.

I used Paulina yarn from Finnish brand Lankava for the first time and I must say, that I was impressed. It is a rope yarn and would be also great if you feel like making rugs or other bigger home accessories and macramé.

From one Paulina cone, which is approximately 1 kg of 190 m long yarn you can make a basket with these dimensions:

Material:

1 x Paulina color navy

1 x 8 mm crochet hook

Pattern:

The base

Start the base with magic circle/magic ring of 6 single crochet (sc).

Don´t forget to use stitch marker, so you know where the beginning of each row is.

Row 2 - > work 2 sc into each stitch (now we have 12 sts).

Row 3 - > work 2 sc into each second stitch (now we have 18 sts)

Now we proceed as usually when you make a circle, so adding 6 stitches to each row, but in order to have a circle rather than hexagon, you have to start adding them differently in each row.

Row 4 - > work 2 sc into each third stitch  and I added the first 2 sc into the second stitch (now we have 24 sts)

Row 5 - > work 2 sc into each fourth stitch and add the first 2 sc into the fourth stitch (now we have 30 sts)

Row 6 - > work 2 sc into each fifth stitch and add the first 2 sc into the first stitch (now we have 36 sts)

Row 7 - > work 2 sc into each sixth stitch and add the first 2 sc into the fourth stitch (now we have 42 sts)

Row 8 - > work 2 sc into each seventh stitch and add the first 2 sc into the second stitch (now we have 48 sts)

Row 9- > work 2 sc into each eighth stitch and add the first 2 sc into the eighth stitch (now we have 54 sts)

Row 10 - > work 2 sc into each ninth stitch and add the first 2 sc into the second stitch (now we have 60 sts)

Row 11 - > work 2 sc into each tenth stitch and add the first 2 sc into the sixth stitch (now we have 66 sts)

Now the base is ready and we can proceed to the body of the basket.

Body with handles

Row 1 -> To work the edge fold, insert the hook into the front loop of the stitch and work 66 sc this way, or you can insert the hoook into the back of the stitcg through the loop at the back of the stitch and also the loop just behind the stitch and work 66 sc this way. It is up to you which way you preffer and like more.

Row 2 - 11 -> In the next rows, continue working normal 66 sc.

Row 12 ->We make handles in this row. To make them, work 3 sc into first three stitches, chain 11 (skip 11 stitches) and attach chain into the 12th stitch. Now work another 22 sc (including the stitch where you attached the chain) and continue with 11 chain (skip 11 stitches) and attach it to the 12th stitch, work another 19 sts(including the stitch where you attached the chain).

Row13 -> 66 sc into each stich. When you reach the handles just make 11 sc around each handle

Row 14 -> Finnish the edge by working a row of slip stitch.

And here is the result:
